The Originals Ratings Hit a Series Low With Season 1, Episode 17

The Mikaelsons may have been throwing a party, but viewers definitely didn’t RSVP.
Last night’s all-new episode of The OriginalsSeason 1, Episode 17 (“Moon Over Bourbon Street”) — had everything: hot hookups, tense drama, and even shirtless werewolves. But the one thing it didn’t have was the ratings to back up a freshman season of solid showings.
According to Zap2it, the March 18 showing of the Vampire Diaries spin-off hit a series low, only bringing in 1.63 million viewers and a 0.7 share in the key 18-49 demo. This put the series 13 percent down from last week’s farewell episode to Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt).
Just for reference, Supernatural, which airs after The Originals, pulled in 1.91 million viewers and snagged a 0.8 in the demo, beating out its lead-in. However, last night also marked the suspenseful end to Season 4 of Pretty Little Liars, so its possible fans of both shows chose to tune into the #AliTellsAll event instead of The Originals. We’ll have to wait until the DVR numbers are released to see if our theory is correct. See more
